DERBY RUNNER
CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE ROUND 1
DERBY/STAFF DIVISION
DATE:
Sunday 25th October 2020
ADDRESS:
Wild Wood Lodge, Bushton Lane, Anslow, Burton on Trent, Staffs. DE13 9QL
race start:
10:30am
Cost:
£7 per runner (please bring correct change)

All MRC members can run, it doesn't matter if you have done cross country before or not, but to race you must wear the MRC club colours (official MRC navy blue with orange and white stripes). These events are usually great fun and Anslow is a popular course complete with a water feature on each lap!

As you would expect, there will be additional safety measures in place this year due to Covid restrictions.

All runners must wear a face cover before the start of the race. Social distancing must be observed at all times with congregations of more than 6 people strongly discouraged.

Runners must also take their own refreshments. There are also changes to the start and finish area, this will be a one way system and the start will be staggered.

Once runners have finished they are asked to then return to their cars straight away.

In addition we will need to provide trace details for all runners, so if you are going to run please let me know so that we can record details for the race organisers.

Things will be different this year, but this may be one of the few opportunities to take part in an organised event.

Dave Mann, the organiser, was a director of one of the first Covid compliant races of the year, the successful Belper Rover.

Please be aware that the race is still subject to a race permit and no further lockdown taking place. As you will appreciate, changes can take place at any time leading up to the event.

If you have any questions or wish to see the race risk assessment then let me know.

Unfortunately, I am unable to attend this event, so if anyone would be willing to be the MRC rep, please let me know welfare2@mickleoverrunningclub.co.uk.

Without this role, MRC will not be able to enter a team.

It would be great to have a good turnout so please let me know if you are planning on taking part 😊.

WHEN DID YOU START RUNNING AND WHEN DID YOU JOIN MICKLEOVER RUNNING CLUB?
So , I didn't start running until turned quite late on in life .

This was because I was only ever interested in horses as a child and teenager with every opportunity being spent in johdpurs rather than joggers.

However, horses are very expensive on a student nurse budget and then my interests took me to clubs and pubs .

So running came along as a cheaper option to get some fitness back !

I was encouraged by a friend to try a 5k race for life in about 2004 time and that was the start. Hooked.

WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING IN A RUNNING CLUB?
I did give a few other running clubs a go prior to joining MRC in June 2018 .

The best thing about being in a club is of course the amazing people in it.

MRC is a very inclusive club , there's never any pressure to go fast or go far .

There's always plenty of advice if you want to hear it and if you want to take it on board it is entirely up to you.

I have made some wonderful friends with MRC and would encourage anyone thinking about joining any running club to do it- obviously I would say MRC will be the best choice.

WHEN AND WHO DO YOU RUN WITH THE CLUB?
I had been with MRC for a few months before I told them I had the Run Leader Certificate, so once I felt happy to lead , I began taking a steady pace group on Tuesday and or Thursday.

I love the social runs on Thursday and my favourite place for this is down the cycle track and then through the fields around Radbourne. Absolutely stunning fields of gold as they are affectionately known.

TELL US YOUR HISTORY OF RUNNING?
I am definitely a relaxed runner who is happy chatting at the back of the group.

Although less chatting when its parkrun and a PB feels on the cards.

Once I had completed a few 5k Race for life runs ,I progressed to 10ks then ran my first Half Marathon ramathon June 2014 , it was baking hot and that run has been a hot every year since. People were passing out from half way .

I made it round but felt so ill for hours after. I've since made sure I drink sensibly after longer runs rather than going to the pub for gin and tonic. Whoops.

I've since ran lots of half marathons, full marathon in Brighton and also Amsterdam. The Thunder Run 24 hour endurance with MRC teams, a 20 mile run in Nottingham,100 parkruns, the Ladybower Dambuster 10 mile challenge a few times and cannock chase dirty dozen , oh yes, and one triathlon- once was enough! I'm not a natural swimmer and look like I'm drowning.

I run because I just like the feeling of being outside and just moving along , I'm happy with people or happy on my own .

FAVOURITE PLACE TO RUN?
Ladybower is stunning and the route for the 10 mile takes you along the edge of water all the way round, the scenery is breathtaking, and the weather can take you from sunny to snow / hail and then back to hot sun on just a few kilometres.

I would recommend taking a few layers and suncream.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WORST RUN?
Stafford Half possibly in 2015 .

It was all going badly from 5k , I felt sick , needed to loo permanently.

I remember being with Sharon Freeman in the car waiting to start and the organisers had already given the tshirts and medal out to us all , we said shall we go home and not bother?.

Of course we ran it but it was a struggle for me all the way .

and best RUN?
Favourite race was leiden marathon with my special friend Magda.

We had such an amazing time.

Not sure the 21k walk and the 5k illuminated run at midnight the day before was a good idea, but we had a blast as we always do.

WHO WOULD BE ON YOUR WISH LIST TO RUN WITH?
Well , I would normally have said a famous runner ,however, being months plus of no MRC runs due to Covid, I'm going to say that right now I would give anything to be out with as many MRC runners as possible.

RUN TO TIME OR DISTANCE?
Errrrr, not really sure .

Depends, if I'm feeling like I can run abit faster on a parkrun, I will say time.

But I definitely prefer longer than something over too fast ha ha .

WOULD YOU RUN A MARATHON WITHOUT GETTING A MEDAL?
Yeah, I probably would.

But someone would have to get me a cake at the end.
