Dear MRC Members,

Following on from previous MRC communications on the Covid-19 restrictions, we will still not be able to provide “the old normal” MRC club runs in the near future. We have however, been continuing to look at different ways of getting our members running again. We recognise that the lock down period has been a really difficult time for many of our members and, hopefully even small changes in what we are able to do as a club will go some way to help get back to some level of normality.

You will have seen the many virtual runs and challenges that have been setup over the lock down period and these are set to continue, some with fantastic prizes! However, we have also been investigating how we can get more small group runs to take place whilst following England Athletics guidelines. Although we will not be running official MRC runs, we would like to encourage our members to arrange small group runs of up to 6 people (including the organiser) via the MRC Facebook page.

This will hopefully enable our members to have increased opportunities for running socially. We are sorry to those members not on Facebook, but during this uncertain time and need for “Track and Trace” this is the only way we can co-ordinate these runs at this stage.

If you wish to setup a run, this needs to be, as stated on the MRC Facebook group with no more than 5 people (you as the 6th). When setting up the run group please give details of the start time, meeting point, distance and expected pace, to allow people to determine if the run is suitable for them.

Please do not attend a run if you have not signed up for it. We need to follow Government guidelines and be able to provide contact details for Track and Trace in the event of a runner contracting COVID-19. We ask that runners stick to up to date guidelines on social distancing and follow the current MRC Covid-19 information and risk assessment guidelines on the club website. A copy of England Athletics’ guidance can be found here.

Please do not attend a run if either you or someone in your household has any symptoms of Covid-19.

This is a continually evolving situation and as guidelines change we will look to seek a new “norm”, with this we will be conducting a poll via Facebook to determine what the appetite for official club runs are in the future.

Also the club needs to appoint a “COVID Coordinator”, to take responsibility for club plans of official runs and write the required risk assessments for the club. If you have experience in health and safety in a professional or volunteer setting and willing to do this people please contact one of the committee members. For further information on this please click here and read section 1, page 2.

We hope to see you all soon!
