Newsletter March 2025
It’s the first newsletter in a while, so much has been going on that I’ll struggle to fit it all in, but hopefully you’ll enjoy this summary of all the amazing achievements going on in the club, and exciting events happening in the future. First of all thanks to Kel and Paul for all the work they’ve done as Chair and Membership Secretary - we wouldn’t be here without them. They’ve passed the baton on to myself and Chris Cox, and we’ll be doing our best to keep the club running to your high standards. We’ve had a year of amazing running achievements, too many PBs to mention from 5ks to ultra-marathons, road and off-road–if you think you may have got a club record please send it in as I want to get this back up to date; check out this page on the website..
At cross-country we saw the usual mud, hills and maybe one or two complaints, but all your amazing performances led us to a podium position including a few individual trophies to boot. Well done and lets keep it up next year.
Staying on the off road theme Trail Run Tuesdays saw a few brave souls venturing into the dark on the first Tuesday of the month. A social run followed by a pint–keep an eye out for the location and come along for a good chat with people you might not get the chance to speak to on a normal club night.
As a club we train on road, off road and also as of a couple of years ago venturing onto the track. The track nights have been a super success, thanks to Phil Scope and his team for organising. Numbers are ever growing and we’re able to provide a welcoming, safe and fun training opportunity not only to our members but also to other runners in the community. It’s not all about speed, just somewhere you can run with others and not think about crossing roads, running in the dark, uneven surfaces or how far away the nearest toilet might be! Monday evenings at Moorways, check out Facebook or speak to Phil for the details.
Of course it’s not all running, we’ve had some fun filled socials too. Another trip to Benidorm saw equal parts running and relaxing, the summer camping trip was a hit and we were out in force, and in fancy dress, for the Christmas pub crawl run.

January also saw another great time had by all at Awards night, finishing the evening off to the dulcet tones of none other than our ex-membership secretary Mr Dolman. You can see all the awards from this year and previous years here.
Coming up this year we have plenty of races to run, a camping trip in the works, and another trip to Benidorm for either 10k, half marathon, or sun lounging–race day is November 22nd, speak to Nic Dolman for details.
Of course I can’t write this newsletter without remembering the one and only James Stevens who sadly passed away this year. James was a great friend to many, our kit man and a founding member of the club. He will be missed, to remember him we now have the James Stevens trophy for the winner of the parkrun championship and we're looking into other ways to pay tribute to him and the work he did for the running community - more info to come.
Thanks for reading! You should see a few more newsletters throughout the year where we can go into more details of people’s running achievements. If you ever want to submit a race report then please get in touch, we’d all like to hear about your training, motivations and how the race went. I’m also keen for any other suggestions about how the members would like the club to be run you can contact me here.
Keep up the running and best of luck to anyone racing this Spring.
